Dr. Terrance Scott
Dr. Terrance Scott is an educator, consultant, writer, and native Detroiter who has a strong passion for removing barriers that hinder African American children living in poverty from attaining a high quality education. He is a product of Detroit Public Schools, a graduate of Martin Luther King High School, and an alumnus of The University of Michigan – Ann Arbor. It was during his time at Michigan, including a study abroad experience in Italy, that he discovered his passion for education, social justice, and neighborhood sustainability through community development. Dr. Scott joined Teach for America – Nashville in 2012, where he completed his 2 year teaching requirement and remained in the classroom for 6 years. He continued his education, completing his Masters degree in Education from Lipscomb University in 2014, and completing his Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Trevecca Nazarene University in 2017. During this time he also worked as a consultant for school districts across the country in an effort to help build teachers’ capacity for culturally relevant teaching, diversity, equity, and inclusion. Dr. Scott and his wife welcomed a baby boy in September 2017, and made the decision to transition back to Detroit to raise their son closer to family and continue the work on the home front. Dr. Scott now serves as the Director of Academics for Equity Public Schools in Detroit, and he recently started his own consulting firm, Scott Cultural Consulting, LLC.
