Project Success Coordinator, Mr. Don Ferguson, was honored with the first ever President’s Appreciation Award. A man of great diligence with a strong passion for mentoring youths, Mr. Ferguson was presented this significant award by the chapter’s President, Mr. Charles Felton.

In acceptance of the award and in appreciation for the 100 Black Men of Greater Detroit, Inc., Mr. Ferguson shared this heart-felt speech:

“I joined the 100 Black Men of Greater Detroit, Inc. back in 2004. During that time, I was working for GMAC and handled the donations for non-profit organizations. That said, I wondered what I could do to become more involved in the organization.

“Within just a few months, I was invited to be a part of the board – and, became the Treasurer. A few years later, with the help and guidance of great folks like Bill Middlebrooks, Tim Worford, Randy Walker and a few others, we moved forward with our mentoring program – Project 100 at Southeastern.

“When I retired back in 2010 (wow – that was 13 years ago), we upped our game and I became the Project Success Coordinator. All along, I continued to maintain our financial records and write grants to support our programs. Even when we had actual treasurers, I continued to keep the books. Earlier this year, I completely turned all of the record keeping to our new treasurer – Brother James Thomas.

“Last night at our membership meeting, I was completely caught off guard when President Felton called me forward to present me with the first ever President’s Appreciation Award. Almost immediately, Past President Bill Middlebrooks (who joined when I did) stood before the group to share some of the things we have accomplished. Bill – thanks so much.

“I just wanted to take a moment and share my appreciation and award with all of the members and friends of the 100 Black Men of Greater Detroit, Inc. In the words of our dear friend, Tom Worford – “It’s All About The Kids.”

Thanks ever so much for taking the time to recognize not just my efforts – but, Our Efforts. I look forward to seeing all of you at our upcoming December 9th – Holiday Toy Function.”
